How to transform your limiting beliefs for good easily

Your beliefs have tremendous control over your life. Simply stated they are an acceptance that something is true, usually without any proof of its truth. We acquired many of these from our youth and they are now stored as memories. Our memories, which are in our subconscious mind, outside our conscious awareness, are based on how we interpreted our experiences. Moreover, the emotions we attached to them. Furthermore, our nervous system, through the lens of our beliefs, influences what we see. What we choose to consciously delete, distort or generalise in our daily experiences. Over time our beliefs form solid foundations that shape our lives. Discovering the keys to transform our limiting beliefs is essential for achieving new results and fulfilling our potential.

Your thoughts influences your results which is why you must learn how to transform your limiting beliefs

If you believe you can do something, chances are you probably will. Thinking you aren’t good enough to get a new job will probably mean you won’t. Believing you aren’t smart enough to make money will limit your income. Your beliefs are immensely powerful and this can be illustrated with the placebo effect. A placebo is any treatment prescribed for a condition for which it is physically ineffective. In other words, it’s where someone is given a sugar pill rather than a headache tablet to reduce the pain of a headache. The majority of research has centred on pain relief, also known as placebo analgesia. Research in this field indicates that approximately one third of individuals who receive a placebo believe it to be a potent treatment. A whopping thirty percent of people believe the placebo to be effective to their pain.

This is no better summarised by the words of Henry Ford,

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

When you unearth any hidden limiting beliefs by bringing them into your awareness you can shift your thinking. Moreover, see things differently and allow new possibilities to open up. Discovering how to transform your limiting beliefs helps expand your mind and create a mindset for success or growth mindset.

A frequently held limiting belief is not being good enough

As many of your beliefs are hidden from your awareness, because they reside in your subconscious mind you have to discover them first. This requires a desire to change, and a lens of curiosity and kindness. Like a detective who curiously digs deep to find the real truth, you want to adopt this mindset. Moreover, it is your background chatter that makes up your life story. Psychiatrist and Harvard Medical School professor John Sharp, in his TEDx talk, says about life story,

“It’s the story you’ve been telling yourself about who you are and how everything always plays out.”

Beliefs can also be accepted as the norm among communities and societies

Many years before Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile, most people, including his coach didn’t believe it was possible. They thought his heart would explode. However, in a very short time after Roger Bannister broke this milestone, and disproved the belief, others followed suit. Today, more than 1450 people have achieved this result. Furthermore, around a year ago, Eliud Kipchoge, a marathon runner, became the first athlete to run a marathon under two hours. His unshakeable belief was a crucial part of his success. Furthermore, he cultivated excellent habits because he had a plan, and habits are the foundations of excellence.

“Personally, I don’t believe in limits. My mind was clear. From the first kilometre to the last kilometre, I knew I had it.”

When you start to delve deeper into your subconscious mind, the storehouse of all your memories, you will be able to expand your vision. Open up new possibilities and move towards your goals faster. You might even find yourself doing the things you know you should instead of being pulled off course by your old stories.

Here are a few questions to help you discover how to transform your limiting beliefs

Write your unhelpful or limiting beliefs on a piece of paper and answer the following questions:

  1. Is this statement 100% for everyone?
  2. Am I sure it is 100% true?
  3. What does holding onto this belief do for me?
  4. And what will the cost be in ten years time as a result of holding on to this belief?
  5. If I could let go of this belief what would happen?
  6. What is a new empowering belief I could adopt?
  7. How will I act with the new belief?
  8. How do I feel about this new belief

When you have completed this exercise, commit to writing down your new belief on a card. Carry it with you and read it every day until you see the evidence in your life change. If your old belief was, “I can’t earn enough money,” change it to “I easily attract more money into my life.” Every time you experience proof of this in your life you help build your belief and shift your expectation to possibility and abundance. Furthermore, reading helps create new neural pathways and lock in the new belief. Moreover, be consistent with this until you create a habit of reading the new belief. This is how to transform your limiting beliefs for good, expand your limits to what is possible. Furthermore, create your own mindset for success.
